Electrical insulating materials at high atmospheric humidity and under the influence of electric stress may cause corrosion of metal parts in contact with them. Electrolytic corrosion is usually determined with insulating materials in contact with copperor brass pieces and with direct voltage applied. Three test methods are specified: 1.) A visual semi-quantitative method, 2.) a quantitative method which involves tensile strength measurements of copper wire, and 3.) a method using a quantitative measurement of insulating resistance. Test apparatus and procedures are described in detail.
