This standard applies to ratemeters used in nuclear instrumentation to measure periodic or random pulse counting rates, as produced by detectors, such as counter tubes or fission ionization chambers. Such an instrument comprises essentially the counting ratemeter itself and its own auxiliary circuits. A ratemeter is considered as an operational function unit characterized mainly by its output. It was decided that the scope should be as general as possible, and therefore this standard gives neither lists of qualification, type or acceptance tests, nor numerical values for the various characteristics specified. The standard is intended to permit comparison between two counting ratemeters of the same type as well as between two counting ratemeters of different types. It defines the characteritics used for expressing the functional performance and establishes test methodsrecommended for measuring and verifying such characteristics.
