This standard is applicable to noble gas effluent monitors intended to measure, for accident andpost-accident conditions, the volumetric activity of radioactive noble gases in the gaseous effluents at the discharge point and the variation of volumetric activity with time. The monitor may also be used for the determination of the total discharge of noble gas activity over a given period. The standard does not deal with sample extraction and laboratory analysis which are essential to a complete programme of effluent monitoring. Its object is to lay down specific requirements and to give examples of acceptable methods of meeting the requirements for equipment which continuously monitors noble gases in gaseous effluents. General requirements are given in IEC Publication 951-1.
