This International Standard applies to operations with unirradiated mixed uranium-plutonium oxide (MOX) outside nuclear reactors. Various reference systems, in terms of isotopic compositions, thicknesses of water reflection and densities of oxide are under consideration. The purpose of this Standard is to provide common reference critical values for homogeneous water-moderated plutonium-uranium oxide mixtures based on an inter-code comparison of criticality values obtained by different calculation codes and using different nuclear libraries. A classical validation approach of the critical values is not allowed because of a lack of critical experiments for MOX fuel. Thus, the values obtained by different codes using different nuclear libraries served to define the standard values as the lowest value between those calculated by each calculation code and accepted as credible. The values of this International Standard are reference values and not absolute critical values.
