This International Standard specifies the manufacturing sector common foundation for environmental influence evaluation, which enables sector specific methods for characteristic situations. This International Standard enables an assessment for environmental consequences of manufacturing processes, either as reductions in negative influence or as increases in positive results, but this International Standard is not intend for certification or its related regulatory audit. This International Standard identifies fundamental principles and specifies a methodology to evaluate the energy efficiency and other key factors associated with a discrete manufacturing system which determines its environmental influence. The evaluation method and underlying concept of this International Standard may be used as the foundation for the environmental influence evaluation for continuous process and/or batch process, common with discrete products/parts manufacturing process. This International Standard evaluates environmental influence of a manufacturing system which consists of individual manufacturing equipment, and is configured as a work unit, a work cell, a work area or a factory. This International Standard defines the requirements for the environmental influence data to be captured from the individual manufacturing equipment, as the most granular data for aggregating along the manufacturing system hierarchy. Followings are outside the scope of this International Standard: - The environmental influence evaluation methodology to handle other systems outside the manufacturing system boundary, an overall plant site and/or an entire enterprise; - The environmental influence evaluation methodology to handle the complete product life cycle, - Definition of an environmental influence evaluation index to be used for system certification, commercial qualification, regulatory compliance or trade agreements; - Method and data for environmental evaluation which is specific to a particular industry sector, manufacturer, or machinery.
