This part of ISO 9241: Describes the methods that can be used for the evaluation of haptic devices and of systems that include haptic devices. Specifies a procedure for the evaluation of haptic interactions by a usability walkthrough or usability test (Annex I). ? Provides a list of the attributes of haptic systems, cross-referenced to the relevant clauses of ISO 9241-910, ISO 9241-920 and ISO 9241-960, that can be assessed by measurement in a lab, inspection by an expert, testing of user interaction for specific tasks, and observation of the system in normal use. ISO 9241-940 includes the following type of interaction: - virtual environment - logical or virtual space with which a user can interact with the aid of a haptic device - augmented reality - information overlaid on a real scene, such as a vibrating belt indicating distance to a nearby object - unidirectional interaction such as a vibrating phone or a vibrating belt - gesture control of a device or a virtual scenario ISO 9241-940 includes the following type of device: - tactile e.g. vibrating phone - kinaesthetic e.g. desktop haptic interface - gesture sensor, e.g. video that discerns 3D hand movements, touch screens that sense 2D touches
