This standard covers a range of rectangular multicontact connectors with male and female contacts arranged in two rows spaced 2.54 mm (0,1 in) apart. In each row, the contact spacing is 2.54 mm (0.1 in) and the contacts of one row offset 1.27 mm (0.05 in) with respect to those of the other row. These connectors are intended for use with printed wiring boards using a basic grid of 1.27 mm (0.05 in) as laid down in IEC Publication 97, Grid System for Printed Circuits. The connectors are provided with: - either solder type termination for wire; - or solderless termination for wrap-type (manual wrapping); - or solder staight terminations for through-board insertion of nominal board thickness up to 3.2 mm (0.125 in); - or solder elbow terminations for through-board insertion of nominal board thickness up to 1.6 mm (0.063 in); - or flat solder type terminations for double-soldered printed wiring board with nominal thickness of 1.6 mm (0.063 in), where connections are made to each side of the board. Polarizing, guiding and coding are achieved by means of a system of suitable male-female guides. Male guides are provided with a coding pin and female guides with a corresponding slot. The pin and slot may be oriented by the user according to six positions at 60 ° by rotation of the guide around its axis. The combination of the six possibilities of each extremity guide allows for 36 coding possibilities in each connector. The high-contact number connectors have, in addition, a central guide without coding system. This standard is intended to be used in conjunction with IEC Publication 130-1.
