Describes the heat flow meter method for the in-situ measurement of the surface-to-surface thermal resistance of plane building elements, primarily consisting of opaque layers perpendicular to the density of heat flow rate and having no significant lateral heat flow rate. Some transparent elements may be tested when solar radiation is not impinging on the element. Specific procedures for such elements are not described in this standard. It is not intended for the measurement of the local density of heat flow rate on non-plane building elements such as beams, rafters, frames, etc. It is not intended as a high precision method to replace laboratory instruments such as calibrated and quarded hot boxes conforming to ISO 8990:1994 or hot boxes using a heat flow meter. This standard describes the apparatus to be used, the calibration procedure for the apparatus, the installation and the measurement procedure, the evaluation of the analysis method, the analysis of the data and the reporting format.
