This standard defines the interference situations to be examined and limits to be applied in case of electromagnetic interference on metallic pipelines by a.c. traction systems (e.g. operated with 50 Hz or 16,7 Hz), for different conditions of the latter: - operating condition, - fault condition due to the following physical mechanisms: - inductive coupling, - conductive coupling, - capacitive coupling. It covers the resulting effects of: - safety of people which can be in contact with the pipeline or connected equipment; - damage of the pipeline or connected equipment 1), - malfunction of connected equipment. This standard is applicable to all metallic pipelines, irrespective of the conveyed liquid or gas, liable to be influenced by an a.c. traction system. The objective of this standard is to define the types of coupling which must be considered for various operating conditions of the a.c. railway system, the configurations to be considered for both the metallic pipeline and the a.c. railway systems and the limits to the voltage values resulting from the coupling. This standard is applicable to new metallic pipelines and new a.c. traction systems. This standard is also applicable to existing metallic pipelines or a.c. traction systems where modifications are foreseen which will significantly increase the existing levels of electromagnetic interference or reduce the existing level of protection.
