This Draft International Standard addresses protocols for the use of 3D surface scanning systems for acquisition of human body shape data and to those measurements defined in ISO 7250 that can be extracted from 3D scans. It does not apply to instruments that measure the location and/or motion of individual landmarks. While most of the text is directed towards whole body scanners, the standard should be understood to apply to body segment scanners (head scanners, hand scanners, foot scanners) as well. The intended audience is those who use 3D scanners to create 1D anthropometric databases, and the users of 1D anthropometric data from 3D scanners. The audience is not necessarily the designers and manufacturers of the systems. However, scanner designers and manufacturers will find the standard useful when meeting the needs of their customers that build and use 1D anthropometric databases.
