English translation NEN 2767-1 'Condition assessment for the built environment' published

18-02-2019 The English translation of NEN 2767-1:2017 was recently published. This Dutch standard describes the method to define and record the technical condition of an asset in an objective and uniform way. As a result of the demand from international organizations for an English version of the standard the Dutch Technical committee 'Condition assessment' decided to initiate the translation of NEN 2767-1:2017.

Large asset owners in the Netherlands (f.i. Dutch Department of Waterways and Public Works, Central Government Real Estate Agency, provinces and large cities) with multiple and divers maintenance challenges were already convinced by the use of condition assessment by which the technical condition of the built environment (real estate and infrastructure) is recorded in a uniform way. This improves the communication and guidance of the desired condition, f.i. in performance based procurement.

Call for uniformity

With the publication of NEN 2767-1:2017 NEN facilitates the pursuit of uniformity of asset information within international organizations. The translation was made anticipating the European standard (CEN/TS) for condition assessment that is also based on NEN 2767-1:2017.

Assessment criteria

NEN 2767-1 is an objective assessment tool to record the technical condition of the built environment. Through synchronization of the assessment results with the maintenance strategy of an organization guidance can be given to long term maintenance plans based on which maintenance budgets can be determined. NEN 2767-1 also gives guidance in the way future risks of technical defects can be addressed.

This results in the ability to assess the entire built environment with NEN 2767-1:2017 in an objective and uniform way offering the opportunity to make the connection between condition assessment and risk based maintenance in the entire construction sector.
